Things That Are Making Me Happy

I had a story accepted for the Bouchercon Anthology. This year they are paying a small fee and consequently received over 300 stories. Feel lucky to be included. The stories are read blindly, which I like a lot. Thanks to the judges who were willing to read so many stories.

We enjoyed GAME NIGHT. A small film but clever and entertaining. THE INSULT was also a very good film abut a dispute between a Christian Lebanese and a Palestinian man. It makes you wonder if these divisions can ever be healed.

Got to watch Kevin play in the state hockey championship for his division. They lost three games in a row but the kids didn't seem to mind. Fun to be there.

Grateful for the friends who gave us a ride to the hospital last week (routine). My non-driving continues to be an issue and will only be more so if I don't conquer it.

Happiness this week:

Schadenfreude. Trump's week.

Granddaughter Erin's high school percussion band competition. Loud drums. Talented drums. A program that included Erin being haunted by nightmares. Where do they come up with this stuff? (The school that was on after Erin's did an African hunt for lions, with drums.)

Caught Season two of HAP AND LEONARD, from Joe's book MUCHO MOJO, one of my favorites. Kitty and I both loved the television series. Season three has already begun, but we don't get the Sundance Channel so we'll have to wait until it is on Netflix.

Read and enjoyed F. Paul Wilson's PANACEA and THE GOD GENE, the start of another series related to The Secret History of the World. Good stuff!

Beautiful weather -- yay! Time to work on the jungle that is our back yard -- boo! hiss!

Congratulations on the Bouchercon story sale!

Glad your story was chosen for the BOUCERCON anthology!

Last week at this time we were looking at green grass. Last Friday, Western NY got hit with a foot of heavy, wet snow. Skiers love it! More snow on the way later this week. I'm thankful to have Big Orange (my snowblower) to deal with all this white stuff!

I'm glad I picked most of the OSCAR winners.

Diane and I are halfway (DISC #7) through the audio book of DI VINCI. Anyone interested in Art will love this book!

Don't worry, Patti! Self-driving cars are coming soon!

Congratulation for getting your story chosen. Ordered your SS collection from Amazon. Should be here in a couple days.
Glad to see Roger Deakins finally win a Oscar for cinematography after 14 nominations.
Read some very good books this week including Only Killers and Thieves by David Howarth. A novel of Australia in the late 1800's. Couldn't get into the new David Mamet-Chicago.

I too saw season 2 of HAP AND LEONARD. Each episode is great. No filler or fluff in the story at all.

I ended up watching 2008's 10,000 BC for no particular reason and ended up enjoying it quite a bit. Nothing original in the story but very well done and a fun adventure story.

The family saw BLACK PANTHER on Saturday. A fun movie but I'm getting real sick of super hero movies. Michael B. Jordan is a heck of an actor. He made for a great bad guy.

I got progressive bi-focals on Saturday. Wearing those is an adjustment. I just put them back on to force myself to use them.

Thanks, Steve. You should come to my reading. You could ask a question.
Must watch HAP AND LEONARD. Michael B just stole every scene he was in.
You will get used to the progressives. The other is just a pain.

Jordan has been in all three movies he directed, starting with the excellent FRUITVALE STATION. It was a kick to see him so much younger in the first season of THE WIRE.

Great news about the story. Congratulations! My copy of your book is supposed to be arriving here on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to it .

We're enjoying the (at last!) return to normal 70s here after a month of all 80s. We're enjoying seeing movies here more cheaply and in newer, nicer theaters than at home. We saw BLACK PANTHER in a huge but nearly empty theater. Jackie picked ANNIHILATION over THE PARTY (only 71 minutes long!) for tomorrow's movie.

George, the udea of self-driving cars is keeping Jackie awake at night!

Patti, I know the driving is a big thing. Jackie never felt comfortable behind the wheel, and never took her driving test. We have other friends where one of the couple doesn't drive either.

I'm enjoying reading the first prequel novel to the HOMELAND series, especially since we don't have Showtime here.

I saw the urologist, had an excellent PSA (0.01) so things are well under control with the cancer. I'm still fighting my glucose numbers, though. Girl Scout cookies took their toll.

Dry, sunny weather allowed us to get into the garden yesterday, I dug out an old Lavender shrub, which we'll replace. The Crocuses are in full song, we're amending the raised beds, there's new growth everywhere. But the rain returns Thursday.

We watched the Oscars last night. As a multi-grenrational U.S. citizen straight white male, it's clear I'm worthless and despised.

Barbara just finished THE DRY and liked it a lot. She has the second book on hold at the library, but the list is quite long. Meanwhile she's reading a Longmire, THE SERPENT'S TOOTH, while I'm reading Poul Anderson. Are you going to do another "What's Everyone Reading?" again this week?

Jeff-In NY is is easier to not drive than in the Motor City. I am just making life hard for the other people in my life.
Yes, Rick. I will do it on TH because I have to do the First Wednesday review on Wed.
But if you want to reclaim it, I am more than happy to have that happen.
Thanks to everyone for buying the book. I hope you like it.

Patti, that is exactly what I told Jackie this morning. And the suburbs don't give you much option.

You're right that driving in Florida is much easier. The roads are wide and, for the most part, well paved.

pattinase (abbott) said...

You cannot imagine what MI roads are like. They have a huge surplus and yet the Republic legislature refuses to spend it. I doubt the road are worse anywhere.

Gerard Saylor said...

Don't worry, Wisconsin roads are getting progressively worse and worse.

pattinase (abbott) said...

A rust belt contest! What do those Republican legislatures want to spend money on.

Steve Oerkfitz said...

Patti, just something i forgot to mention earlier, i didn`t really like GAME NIGHT because for a supposed comedy it was so embarrassingly unfunny.
